Barcelona, September the 29th, 2025

On September 29, the new academic year of the Master’s in Education in Values and Citizenship, coordinated by GREM, began with a very special guest: Judge Manuela Carmena. With the venue at full capacity, the Margarida Comas Lecture Hall in the Migdia Building of the UB Faculty of Education hosted Carmena’s lecture on the role of kindness as a value in both education and contemporary society, including institutional politics.

Starting from this premise, the judge reflected on the turbulent historical moment we are currently experiencing, calling for a revival of empathy and the recognition of others and their complexities through respect for difference—a fundamental moral value for democratic life.

These and other related topics, such as the genocide in Gaza, were addressed during the Q&A session following the inaugural lecture of the Master’s in Education in Values and Citizenship, thus marking the beginning of its 2025–2026 academic year.
